Hilary Van Hoose

Bio

Hilary grew up a homeschool kid primarily in Northern California and Hawaii, where she developed a love of outdoor activities, and where her skills as a culinary artist won her more than 160 awards in local competitions. She gained an array of perspectives and skills from the rollercoaster of experiences that has been her life, and uses them as the bases of subjects for future writing.

Education

Hilary earned her M.F.A. in Film and Television Production from USC's School of Cinematic Arts, winning the first ever Jack Oakie and Dale C. Olson “You Heard it Here First” Scholarship Award for Excellence in Entertainment Communication in Honor of Victoria Oakie.

 

Earning her B.A. in Film and Digital Media Production from UC Santa Cruz (go banana slugs!), Hilary entered as a Regent's Scholar and immediately joined the team for the on-campus television news program "Banana Slug News" while volunteering at the Santa Cruz County Community Television station and doing freelance article writing for Uloop and USA Today College in her spare time. While working on a project as a Film Department and Porter College Fellow, Hilary also gained certification in Leadership Training and Development from the UCSC Experiential Leadership Program. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude after completing the UCEAP French Language & Culture program in Paris, France.

Employment

Hilary recently wrote articles for Script Magazine, Animation Magazine, and Pipeline Artists Magazine, and is currently freelance screenwriting for an international animated children's series. She recently wrapped a room as a staff writer for a series at Nickelodeon, soon after working as a screenwriter for a television series in development at TeamTO.

In 2021, Hilary renewed her skills in print journalism studying at LAVC, then publishing 6 articles in The Valley Star (the Los Angeles Press Club's Collegiate Newspaper of the Year).

She has previously worked as everything from an intern to a producer and video editor at NBCUniversal, Amazon Studios, CBS, Laugh Factory, Bad Robot, and many others. Outside of entertainment, she has worked as a librarian, archivist, teaching assistant, calculus tutor, and ad copy writer.
